Cornish mist down The Lizard

July 26th, 2008

The FTI Bus close to home down The Lizard , 10:30 and the high season tourists are making their way across the Green for their ice-creams, a mist comes in from the ocean and thoughts drift away from the crowds that are building to a more Cornish reality, the fog horn can be heard in the distance a warning to mariners , many a life has been lost to the ocean off Lizard Point

Organic camping on Bodmin Moor

July 17th, 2008

The FTI Bus stopped by at South Penquite Farm today, lots of friendly ducks around some of them are quite amusing, they waddle around the campsite from tent to tent.

There are traditional yurts for hire at Penquite Farm and real open camp fires are allowed with local sustainable firewood available from the farm house together with their home-grown organic mutton sausages, burgers chops and steaks.

South Penquite Farm is a 200 acre working hill farm situated high on Bodmin Moor between the villages of Blisland and St Breward. More information about this area can be found at the Bodmin Moor website: http://bodminmoor.co.uk

North Cornwall Tropical Bird & Animal Gardens

July 17th, 2008
Tucked away down a wooded valley in the unspoilt village of St Breward is the North Cornwall Tropical Bird and Small Animal Gardens. The entrance to the gardens is via a large pet shop, probably the largest supplier of aviary stock in Cornwall, birds of all shapes, sizes and colour.
Some of monkeys that live at the gardens had tiny babies clinging on to their backs while some very astute  looking meecats stood and watched us back. There’s a flock of really funky looking lamas and they seemed  to enjoy the brief sunshine while their young played amongst some Guinea fowl.
There is a nice pinic area at the bird centre and all in all these hidden tranquile gardens and the vast collection of small animals and birds are well worth a half day visit. The entrance price is only £2.00 for adults and a £1 for the kids :) Its location deep in Bodmin Moor makes the journey there an adventure in itself. Head for St Breward and look out for the parrot signs when you get there.
