FTI Bus A trip back in time

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

The FTI Bus at King Edward Mine Troon. The imagineers project this evening recreating the landscape of times past by lighting the engine house chimneys across the Great Flat Load.

Hundreds of people turned up for the event and the King Edward museum was bussling with people keen to learn about the mining trade.

Quite surreal watching smoke emit from the engine houses and to imagine this once was a thriving mining area, in fact the Great Flat Load was once the richest square mile on the planet. Maybe a trip to the past or a touch of the future as South Crofty Mine is due to re-open after ten years of closure….

Cornish Midsummer bonfire Chapel Carn Brea

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

The history of the midsummer bonfire dates back to the times of Pagan rituals. The FTI Bus arrived at Chapel Carn Brea to check out this very Cornish tradition which is continued each year by the Old Cornwall Society

An amazing place to watch the sunset with views all round Lands End. Pasties were served before the the fire was lit.

The first fire was lit with subsequent fires following across the Duchy, it was nice to hear parts of the ceremony spoken in the Cornish Language, a reminder of Cornwall’s uniqueness.

Trelawney one of the Cornish National anthems was also sung around the fire.
